In 2021, I'm working in seven week cycles, then taking the eighth week off. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's an experiment to combat burnout after struggling with it my entire entrepreneurial life.
Anyhow, I'm finding this way of working creates a nice rhythm, and built in time for reflection. So after each cycle, I've been doing an internal review to see what worked and what didn't, and to plan for the next round.
Then, I send out that review as a newsletter. Not only do I share my wins and learnings, as most "work in public" folks do. I share actual numbers—traffic, revenue, expenses, etc—even when they're not flattering. Plus I share all of the tough shit no one ever seems to talk about. The failed projects. The burnout. The self-doubt. And the countless ways I sabotage myself.
In other words, this isn't some "hey everyone, look how great I am" newsletter. It's an "if I can be this fucked up and still chip away at my goals, so can you" newsletter.
Below, you'll find the archives of those emails, exactly as they were sent at the time.
